Hi everyone! I'm back to updating my old patterns and providing a video tutorial. This one was one of my very first patterns and I still remember how excited I was (ah those were the days). Although this was originally a "slouchy" beanie, I've included instructions for fitted versions in this update. The decrease of the crown is different because the original didn't decrease gradually so it was just cinched up. I have to admit, I like cinching it better but it's not too fitting for a fitted beanie (pun intended).

Scroll for the pattern/video or purchase the pdf from my shop! It's also available on Etsy & Ravelry.

MEASUREMENTS
This is just a standard head sizing chart provided for your convenience. This is not the final size. Sizes may differ due to crocheter’s tension and type of yarn used.

SKILL LEVEL – Easy/Beginner
NOTES – Pattern is written in US terms.
Any weight yarn can be used with 1-2 sizes larger than the recommended hook size for the body & 1-2 sizes smaller for the brim.
INSTRUCTIONS
BRIM | Smaller hook size
Foundation: Ch 10 or as many ch sts as you want your brim size.
Row 1: 1sc into the 2nd ch from the hook and into each ch across. Ch1 and turn. (9 sts)
Row 2: 1sc tbl in the first st and every st across. Ch1 and turn. (9 sts)
Repeat row 2 until the desired circumference ending on the same side as the beginning tail. Measure the brim while slightly stretched. You want the brim snug but not over-stretched. See the chart above for standard circumference sizes.
Seaming the brim | Video Tutorial
Align the 2 short ends together. Work a sl st through the “chain” end of the brim and the back loops of the other end of the brim. Flip the brim right side out so the seam is on the inside.
BODY | Switch to a larger hook size
Set up round 1 (Video): Ch1, work an even number of sc sts around the brim. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc.
Notes: You should have 1 st per row. Increase the number of sc sts to get a number in multiples of 2 sts. It's recommended that you increase by approx 4 sts around evenly so that the Body is looser than the Brim.
Example 1: If i had a total of 71 rows, I would work 1 sc in each row adding 5 additional sts around the brim.
To calculate how many increases you need, divide the total number of rows by the number of increases you need: 71 ÷ 5 = 14.2. You should increase every 14th st. You will work the setup round as follows:
[1sc in each of the next 13 rows (brim rows), 2sc in the 14th row (increase)]. Repeat between [ ] 5x. 1sc in the remaining brim rows (In this example, I have 1 more 1sc to work.
Example 2: You have 65 rows & want to add 5 sts.
65 ÷ 5 = 13. You should increase every 13th st. You will work the setup round as follows:
[1sc in each of the next 12 rows (brim rows), 2sc in the 13th row (increase)]. Repeat between [ ] 5x.
Round 1: ch3 (counts as dc throughout pattern or try the Foundation Double Crochet Stitch), 1dc in same st, [sk1 st, 2dc in next st (V-St)]. Rep be [ ]. Join with a sl st to the 3rd ch from beg ch3. Sl st to next sp (V-St sp).
Round 2: ch3,1dc in same sp, [V-St in the next sp of the next V-St]. Rep bet [ ]. Join with a sl st to the 3rd ch from beg ch3. Sl st to next sp (V-St sp).
Rep Round 2 until beanie measures: See chart above.
Fitted: Approx. 1” below the height measurement.
Slouch: Approx. 1-2” above the height measurement.
Adjust as needed to fit your preference.
