ABBREVIATIONS

ch – Chain

st(s) – Stitch(es)

sl st – Slip Stitch

sc – Single Crochet

hdc – Half Double Crochet

dc – Double Crochet

tbl – Through Back Loop

beg – Beginning

rep – Repeat

rem – Remaining

sc2tog – Single Crochet 2 sts Together

SKILL LEVEL – Beginner

SPECIAL STITCH –

Double Crochet Cluster (dc cl) – [yo, insert hook in st, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2] twice, yo, pull through 3 loops on hook.

GAUGE | In pattern

4” = 5.25 DC Cluster + SC Stitches | 5.25 Rounds

MEASUREMENTS

This is just a standard head sizing chart provided for your convenience. This is not the final size. Sizes may differ due to crocheter’s tension and type of yarn used.

INSTRUCTIONS | Video Tutorial

BRIM | Smaller hook size

Foundation: Ch 10 or as many ch sts as you want your brim size.

Note: Video for different brims! Adjust brim to accommodate the height of your beanie.

Row 1: 1sc into the 2nd ch from the hook and into each ch across. Ch1 and turn. (9 sts)

Row 2: 1sc tbl in the first st and every st across. Ch1 and turn. (9 sts)

Repeat row 2 until desired circumference ending on the same side as the beginning tail. Measure brim while slightly stretched. You want the brim snug but not over stretched. See chart on page 1 for standard circumference sizes.

Example: I worked 53 rows (23”) for a small adult.

Seaming the brim | Video Tutorial

Align the 2 short ends together. Work a sl st through the “chain” end of the brim and through the back loops of the other end of the brim. Flip brim right side out so the seam is on the inside.

BODY | Switch to larger hook size

Set up round 1 (Video): Ch1, work sc sts loosely in multiples of 2 sts around the brim. Join with a sl st to the 1st sc.

Notes: You should have 1 st per row. Increase number of sc sts to get a number in multiples of 2 sts.

If you used the hdc sts for the brim, you should have 3 sts for every 2 rows of brim. Watch the video here.

Rounds 1: ch1, [1sc, 1dc cl] in the same st, *sk1, [1sc, 1dc cl] in the next st. Rep from * around. Join with a sl st to the first sc st.

Note: Work the [1sc, 1dc cl] sts in the sc st & not the dc cl from the previous round.

Round 2: ch1 and turn your work, [1sc, 1dc cl] st into the same st1, *sk the dc cl, [1sc, 1dc cl] st in the next. Rep from * around, sl st to the first sc st.

Repeat round 2 until beanie measures approx. 2” above the ear to crown height measurement (see chart on page 1). Measure from the bottom of the brim. Adjust slouch by working less/more rounds keeping in mind the decrease is approx. 1.5”.

DECREASE

Round 1: ch1 and turn your work, [1sc, 1dc cl] st into the same st, *sk the dc cl, 1sc in the next sc st, 1dc cl in the next sc st, [1sc, 1dc cl] in the next sc st. Rep from * around. Join with a sl st to the first sc st.

Round 2: ch1 and turn your work, 1 sc in same sc st, *1dc cl in the next sc st, 1sc in the next sc st. Rep from * around ending with a dc cl. Join with sl st to the first sc st.

Round 3: ch1, *1sc in each of the next 4 sts, sc2tog. Rep from * around. Sc in any rem sts. Do not join. Work in a continuous round.

Round 4: *1sc in each of the next 3 sts, sc2tog. Rep from * around. Sc in any rem sts.

Round 5: *1sc in each of the next 2 sts, sc2tog. Rep from * around. Sc in any rem sts. Join with sl st to the first sc st.

FINISHING

Fasten off leaving a long tail. Weave the tail through the sts using your tapestry needle. Pull tail to close and tighten hole. Secure and weave in all ends.
