Knit Baby Bonnet Pattern

I have just completed making a baby bonnet using Wool & The Gang's new Tina Tape yarn. Read about it on my last post or click here!

I wanted to share the pattern with all of you! This pattern only comes in one size that fits 1-2 years of age.

This is a simple bonnet worked in the seed stitch with just knitting and purling. I used the 3 needle bind off method to avoid sewing up the seams however, you can easily cast off in pattern and use a tapestry needle to seam up the bonnet.

Let's get started!

Measurement: 7 x 7.5"

Gauge: 2" = 8 Stitches | 14 Rows in Seed Stitch

Supplies:

Tina Tape Yarn by Wool & The Gang | Alternative: Worsted weight yarn.

6.5mm Knitting Needles | I used HiyaHiaya's circular needles

6mm crochet hook (for straps)

6.5mm DPN for 3-Needle Bind off

Tapestry Needle for sewing in ends.

Abbreviations:

co - cast on

k - knit

p - purl

Pattern:

Co 59 sts. I used the long tail cast on method.

Row 1: k, p across

Repeat row 1 until piece measures 6.5 inches.

Bind off using the 3 needle bind off (video at below) method or cast off in pattern and seam up these edges.

Divide stitches in half one side will have an extra st since you have an odd number of stitches).

Hold the 2 needles together and slide all stitches close to tip of needles.

Insert a 3rd needle (DPN) as if to knit through the first st and then through the 2nd st on the other needle. Knit through these two stitches.

Knit another stitch the same way. Now grab the first knitted stitch on right needle and pull it over the 2nd knitted st (like a normal cast off).

Continue working the cast off this way until your last stitch.

Straps (do for both sides):

Attached yarn to corner using a crochet hook. ch60, sl st into the 2nd ch from the hook and every ch back down. Fasten off and weave in ends.

I added a flower but then I removed it because it made that corner heavy. This yarn is very light and cooler than linen so that heavier flower dragged it down.
