Crochet Super Chunky Cowl Pattern & Video Tutorial

I recorded the video before writing out the pattern. When I get home from work and have dinner, there's little time left for anything. It's close to summer and the sun is up longer so I thought I'd take advantage of it and record the video first!

The Jumbo Birch Crochet Hook from Knitter's Pride is just the perfect hook for this project! I love jumbo knitting/crocheting and jumbo tools. It's smooth and doesn't catch on anything (my ring kept snagging on the wool!). It's light & comfortable to hold. Using jumbo tools can be awkward sometimes! They come in 4 different sizes, 20mm - 35mm. For this project, I'm using a 30mm hook.

MATERIALS

• Jumbo Wool Yarn | 500 grams | I used DHG's Giant Wool in the color Shell

• 30mm Jumbo Crochet Hook | I used Knitter's Pride's Crochet Hook

• Tape Measure

• Scissor

ABBREVIATIONS

• ch - Chain

• sl st - Slip Stitch

• st(s) - Stitch(es)

• hdc - Half Double Crochet

• rep – Repeat

Approx. Measurements:

Height (without handles): 9.5"

Width: 15.5" wide/ 31" Circumferece

Pattern Notes: The beginning ch1 does not count as sts. This pattern is for beginners and is easily adjustable! You may use any weight yarn and hook size (recommended on yarn label) to substitute for this pattern.

Instructions:

Foundation: ch 19 or as many ch sts as you'd want your circumference. Join your round by working a sl st into the first ch st, careful not to twist your sts.

The wool I'm using doesn't stretch so what you see is what you get in size. If you're using another weight yarn, keep in mind that it may shrink once you start crocheting into the chain sts.

Round 1: ch1, 1hdc into every st around. sl st to the first hdc st.

Round 2-4: rep round 1

Fasten off and weave in ends with your hands. If you're using a different weight yarn, use a tapestry needle.

Obviously if you're using worsted weight yarn or even super bulky, you'll need to crochet a lot more rounds to get a decent height.
