Today's pattern is for the Seashell Cardigan. Originally I had envisioned a Kimono of some sort. Once I started, It looked a lot more narrow than I'd hope for a Kimono. I admit often times, my designs don't pan out the way I want but it's all part of the (my) design process and instead of ripping out work (which I hate), I re-design based on what I already have... and that's how the Seashell Cardigan was born!
I can see this piece as a swim cover up but there was no way I was modeling it in a bikini!

Worsted Weight - Lion Brand's 24/Cotton Marigold (5 skeins)
5.5mm Crochet Hook - I used Knitter's Pride's Dreamz Crochet Hook

Size XS Finished Measurements:
Length: 26"
Width: 16"
Pattern Notes: Ch3 at the beg counts as a dc st. Ch1 on the hdc rows (for collar) does not count as a st. The main piece is worked in a rectangle with armholes created along the way.
Special Stitch
Shell Stitch – [2dc, ch1, 2dc] in the same st or ch1 sp.
Instructions:
MAIN PIECE
Ending st count 65 sts
Back
Row 1: ch68, 1dc in the 3rd ch from the hook. *sk4 sts, shell st in next (see special st section above). Rep from * across until last. Sk4 sts, 2dc in last st.
Row 2: ch3 & turn, 1dc in the sp between the 2 dc sts from previous row. Work shell st in every ch1 sp (middle of shells from previous row). Work 2dc sts in sp between last 2 dc sts. Rep row 2 for a total of 44 rows or until piece measures 26 inches tall.
Right Front | Mark the middle 6 shells sts.
Row 1: ch3 & turn, 1dc in the sp between the 2 dc sts from previous row. Work shell st in every ch1 sp until marker. Work 2dc sts in the ch1 sp (for the shell that’s marked).
Row 2: ch3 & turn, 1dc in the sp between the 2 dc sts from previous row. Work shell st in every ch1 sp. Work 2dc sts in sp between last 2 dc sts. Rep row 2 for a total of 44 rows or until piece measures 26 inches tall. Fold piece down over the back piece & pm 7” for armhole. Sl st up sides to marker.
Left Front – Fasten on from outside edge
Row 1: ch3, 1dc in the sp between the 2 dc sts from previous row. Work shell st in every ch1 sp until marker. Work 2dc sts in the ch1 sp (for the shell that’s marked).
Row 2: ch3 & turn, 1dc in the sp between the 2 dc sts from previous row. Work shell st in every ch1 sp. Work 2dc sts in sp between last 2 dc sts.
Rep row 2 for a total of 44 rows or until piece measures 26 inches tall.
Fold piece down over the back piece (on the wrong side) & pm 7” for armhole. Sl st up sides to marker.
COLLAR | with right side out
Row 1: Fasten on left bottom corner. Ch1, 1sc up (2sc for every row), along back (1sc in every st) & down the other side (2sc for every row).
Row 2: ch1 & turn, 1hdc in every st to end. Rep row 2 for 7 rows or until band measures approx. 3.75” wide. End on right side.
Bottom: Ch1 and work sc sts along bottom of cardigan. Fasten off.
SLEEVES (rep for other armhole)
With right side out, fasten on at bottom of armhole.
Round 1: ch1 & work sc sts around in multiples of 5 sts. sl st to the first sc st. (Approx. 45 sts).
Round 2: ch3, [1dc, ch1, 2dc] in same st. *sk4 sts, shell st in next st. Rep from * around. sk last 4 sts. sl st to the 3rd ch from beg ch3.
Round 3: sl st in next st & into the ch1 sp. Ch3, [1dc, ch1, 2dc] in the same ch1 sp. Work shell sts in every ch1 sp around. sl st to the 3 rd ch from the beg ch3.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Draw Strings (Optional)
Ch140, sl st in the 2nd ch from hook and in every ch across.
Make 2 tassels by wrapping yarn around your 4 fingers 15 times. Cut one end of loop, Tie top with yarn 1/2” down. Run another strand through top loop and attach to ends.
Run through any space near side seams where you want the draw strings, preferably where your waist line is.
